Online Curiosity Programme

The training focuses on the practical aspects of intervention working 1:1 and individualising the programme strategies for each child or student. The Curiosity Programme targets creating interest and delight in interaction and communication exchanges.

The programme introduces strategies for building connections with trusted adults, pre-verbal social communication skills, curiosity and early play.

There are demonstrations of the techniques in action, films of the work with children, practical hands-on experience for participants and ideas for activities.

The workshop provides opportunities for attendees to try activities at each stage, discuss its application in their setting and develop confidence in running the programme within their school or home.

The workshop is run for groups of up to 25 people, this is to ensure that the practical aspects of the workshop can be run in small groups making coaching and feedback effective.

Curiosity Programme online workshops

We identify ways the learning strengths of children can be exploited and how fragile new skills can be developed. The workshops set out the 4 elements of the Curiosity programme introducing each element to attendees until all 4 are running simultaneously with the child.

There are 4 elements to the Curiosity programme;

Stage 1 Getting connected

In this section the emphasis is on connecting with the child and building respectful, playful and fun reciprocal interactions using strategies that are individual to each child.

Stage 2. Signature songs

In this section we look at the role or rhythm and intonation, the voice as a sensory tool and the joy of early simple songs created to enhance everyday activities, build interest and involvement.

Stage 3. Creating Curiosity

In this section we look at strategies to increase a child’s involvement in a wide range of materials. We look at how to create curiosity, encourage the child to explore and build experience with materials and add a moment of imaginative challenge and rich language.

Stage 4. Let’s play

In this section we look at early games and play sequences, how to make them appealing to each individual, create the fundamentals experiences that lead a child’s learning forward in play that challenges the child in without pressure.

The workshops include ideas for individualising, planning, and linking the programme to the curriculum is incorporated into the training.

How it works?

This live online training is run for groups of a maximum of 25 people.

The live online training will take place via Zoom over a period of weeks in 5 x 75 minute online live training sessions. Total amount of online training time is 7.5 hours.

Please attend using a PC/laptop or large tablet. Accessing sessions on an iPhone/smart phone compromises what you can see and makes it hard for you to watch the demonstrations and films
Please be sure that the camera works on your device as we need to be able to see you throughout the workshop
Each attendee must have their own laptop / computer/ tablet to sign in with as the training works best if there is one person per screen. An individual log in means we can see faces and it is more interactive. The workshops are interactive and we will be dividing you into breakout rooms to work on practical elements.
Sessions are live so please make sure you are able to attend as no recordings are available.
Handouts and notes will be emailed to you, please read them as they include details of what you need to bring to each session.
Please be sure you have a good Wi-Fi connection before you start! You do need a stable internet connection with speeds of at least 2mbs to access the Zoom sessions easily. Zoom sessions are accessible through the invite/link but tend to work better via the free App

A framework that encourages breadth and depth in learning for those who find linear progression challenging
To provide activities with a high density of learning opportunities that create a meaningful context in which social communication can flourish
How to modify and adapt levels of stimulation/distraction in a 1:1 setting
