Course Overview

Spread over a four-month period and delivered across 9 days of Face to Face workshops and 4 online individual feedback/coaching sessions.

There are two aspects of this course:

1. The development of skills and expertise in Advanced Attention Autism practice
2. Qualification for a licence to run Face to Face Day 1 and Day 2 Attention Autism workshops

Through a combination of 9 days of face to face workshops and 4 online individual coaching sessions you will develop your skills and expertise both as a practitioner and a trainer.

These interactive workshops take place in Guildford and involve you and a small group of colleagues. They are facilitated by Lyndsay & Lorraine, together with experts in the fields of psychology, play and presentations skills, and involve tutoring, practical activities and follow up assignments that are evaluated in coaching and mentoring sessions.

The workshop tutors are practitioners whose challenging and inspirational practices have influenced our programmes and whose ideas are incorporated in many aspects of our work. The aim is to share experience and skills with you to inspire the work and generate creative innovative practice.

Attention Autism Advanced Practitioners are expected to lead others by setting an example of outstanding practice.

The course combines theory and practical application, providing you with opportunities to:
– Design fabulous and engaging activities
– Adapt activities to meet specific individual or group needs
– Exploit activities to meet curriculum targets
– Develop activities that incorporate sensory elements that support visual engagement
– Enhance activities to motivate and develop communication skills
– Incorporate independence and self-regulation skill development within sessions
– Discuss and explore suggested methods for intervention
– Share new ideas as individuals and as a team
– Problem solve behavioural issues, whether child or staff related
– Explore ways of differentiating delivery for both age and ability issues

You will have the chance to raise and discuss issues around the practicalities of running Attention Autism groups, ways of maintaining the quality of groups and continuing development once groups are established and working well.

We encourage and support you in developing an action research project that you will carry out as a part of your current work/intervention. We help you find ways to use or adapt current data collection commitments to provide evidence for your research project and the work you do without multiplying the paper work. The focus of the action research is to make intervention practical and data collection meaningful – not to write lengthy and detailed documents.

We look at playfulness and how to create shared enjoyable good times in structured intervention; plus how to use this to enhance your practice, and build relationships and inspire communication within the group and staff team.

Our aim is to nurture and support your talents. You will become a part of a select group that inspires and supports each other, as well as benefiting from direct coaching and mentoring in workshop sessions alongside email and phone support from Lyndsay & Lorraine throughout the duration of the course.

Please note that you will need to be using the Attention Autism programme personally hands-on and have permission to film your group for use on the course for feedback and evaluation.

You will be awarded Advanced Practitioner status on completion of the course and the practical work based activities and evidence of engagement in the action research element.

To qualify for a licence

Our aim is to help you deliver training confidently with your own personal style. In advanced practitioner training, we share techniques and strategies to support you to deliver workshops that really engage and motivate staff.
